This cute little toy is so old that it has turned from soft plastic to hard plastic and no longer makes a squeezey sound. it's still really cute though and is in remarkable condition for what it is. it kind of looks like the mama elephant sat on it for about 40 yrs - flattening it some. but it still stands on it's own! does anyone know approximately when it was made? when i compare it to dumbo figures from the 50s, it looks quite a bit older. maybe 30s or 40s? i found it at Urban Ore in Berkeley for $5.
i think it's a very early Rempel Squeak Toy Elephant from the 1940s.
If it was Dumbo, wouldn't it be marked with a Disney trademark? (Kerry would probably know that) - also, he seems to not have his little hat?
i just found the mark on it. it says 'Rempel. 1932' that's pretty early, as far as i can tell.
that can't be right. rempel didn't start making these till 1945!

thanks Manikin! most of what i found says 1955, but a friend and i both swear that it says 1932.
