Signed porcelin by recognized artist Josephine Miller . I dont know if it is the right Josephine Miller but the right one was a painter who specialized in floral paintings . I find the flowers on this to be particularly beautiful so I am encouraged somewhat . Any thoughts ? Thanks . Jack
Looks to be Porcelain. Many porcelain makers back in the Victorian days would sell blanks. The you would have Women mostly but some men would buy the blanks and paint floral, landscape scenes on them, glaze and refire them locally. If there were marks on the bottom we could tell what factory made the blank? Dave
My wife say's this is just typical backyard porcelin painting but something about it say's it's more . There are no marks on the bottom . I got this at an estate sale from a dear old lady (96)who said it was very old , Jack
Well your wifw was pretty close LOL. it is "A" typical painted porcelain from the 1920-2';s era. I have sold hundreds of pieces like this over the years. Back then women would get togeather and sit around a table and paint blank pieces. It was the rage of the day. Dave
Dave ,So the association to artist would not have much bearing on value presuming it's true and could be proved ? By the way what are the values ? Jack
If she worked for as a Porcelian painter for a Major Company at the time, that would matter. But I find no refereance to her anywere. You could find them retail for 40.00-50.00. Dave
Dave , Hey I'm sorry for not being more clear about Josephine Miller . She is a noted painter of floral oil paintings! She is listed as a notable american artist ,again sorry for not being more clear , Jack
I seen only 2 Josephine Millers' One was from England and did a signature comparison and 100% no match. The second was from California, makes no mention to any style of painting and no signature for comparison. Art is tricky, there would have been thousands and thousands of Ladies name Josephine Miller in that time period. Unless you can compare signatures you can only say Attributed to the Artist. What book or website did you use? Did it have a Signature Sample? Dave
