This was an awesome find. This is a Paul Flato designed compact and lipstick case. Inscribed inside is "Compliments of Glenn McCarthy March 17, 1949". Glenn McCarthy was a Texas Wildcatter who made it big in the Texas oilfields. When snubbed by Houston's country clubs he decided to build a place he and his friends could party and have a good time away from the "snobs" . McCarthy built the Shamrock Hotel in Houston, it opened on March 17, 1949. He invited 175 Hollywood celebrities to celebrate the grand opening. I'm thinking this compact and lipstick were a gift/party favor for those who attended. Such a treasure!
