Added two significant displays to The Coke Cave south wall this week.
A 1954 policeman sign BIN deal 84% book value. Seller lives 15 miles away, so I could not let the opportunity pass. The deal came together quickly and fairly and here he stands in all his glory less than 24 hrs after closing. Packing heat, no less.
But the real prize to me is a gift, a 1912 rice paper napkin, received from fellow 8-Pack Club member Ray. I found a spot so perfect, I couldn't wait to frame it.
I enjoy both pieces equally.
Thanks Virginia.
Hey Michael, was looking at yours earlier and couldn't help but admire how you had it positioned in the corner on your enclosed porch. I had tried this in a couple different spots but your posting inspired me to try something I hadn't thought of, and I'm happy with the results. Thanks Man!
@daddy was just looking at this exact piece on eBay. If I still lived in MI we might of got into a little bidding war. Awesome piece, congrats on the snag.
Thank you JPSII. I was just plum lucky to be so close. I figured it was now or never.
Stop...I would have done the same, the quality is awesome.
Those napkins were a highlight of the Coca Cola page from Ray this week.
Thanks Edisonfan. Seller said that his father and grandfather found it and 2 others in a barn 25 years ago and that his brother has the 1 left in his family which is in even better condition. Amazing how many of the nice Coca-Cola signs are "barn finds". I guess it makes sense.
It was generous of TGBWC to spread the wealth, for sure. This napkin makes a great wall hanger.
What's behind the door that the officer is stopping people from seeing? Better not be a pepsi collection. LOL
Awesome piece!!!
As always thank you (& TGBWC & pickerknows) for sharing.
LOL thanks CK, "the Pepsi stash", love it. That door accesses a small storage space under the stairs where I store our Christmas decorations. So I figure I'll have to move the sign out of the way maybe just a few times a year. I put furniture slide discs under the base, so he glides around pretty easily. Thanks for your comment, have a fabulous Friday!
Thanks for the tips Ray. Rookie mistake on my part. Everybody knows the diamond config is Napkin Hanging 101.
My spray painting experience is limited to tagging boxcars on the south side back in the day. So I think I'll hold off restoring the base for now and enjoy as is. I agree condition is excellent+. That little scratch directly below the bottle is me. Tried to one-man it out of the back of the van. Another rookie mistake... I'm thinking about either putting a view mirror in back of the sign to show off the reverse side or taking a picture and hanging it on that door. Hate to lose that side for display, it's cool too. Thanks again, Special K.
I know a great place to have Coke items framed. Please send me all you want framed. I will return them........I promise.
DISCLAIMER: CokeKid-04 is not responsible for lost or stolen items sent to him for framing.
;)
When I had that banner framed, I would have taken you up on your offer CokeKid. Now that was an ordeal.
It hadn't occurred to me before, but the napkin and canvas banner are from right around the same year. That's probably why they look so good together.
Ray, Yes, much better display in the diag orientation.
Nice Policeman! I'm looking at one local!
Thanks JR. Let us know how it goes.
Thats the ultimate sweet sign to score to round out your collection Dave, and to findmone in such good shape and close by too!!
You are one lucky guy, looks awesome!!
I'm green with envy right now!!
Nicely done, and don't be afraid to take Ray's suggestions on the base, it's an easy DIY fix!
Thanks Bernie! I feel the same way, it's right up there with the Vendo as far as sheer wow factor presence. Hope you have a good weekend.
Ray, If I can figure out how to get the base off, I will take you up on your offer. I know painting the logo especially is not for a novice, it takes a real artist's touch. Thanks.
WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!! major scores for sure... Looking good Dave!
Thanks Tommy!
