Here's an old pin with a rather provocative graphic in the medallion. Yes, you see it right, it's a mushroom cloud as is commonly associated with nuclear detonations. Magna-Pin, the producer of this pin, was known for making magnesium-bodied pins starting in 1962. I've seen these come up for auction but never in the condition or quantity that I've wanted. This pin, though, is not magnesium it is a wood with a plastic cover so essentially modern in design. In addition to the curious medallion graphic, the neckband is an uncommon three-stripe design. Also worth pointing out on this pin is the noticeable color bleeding around the neckband printing. This is rarely seen and is suggestive of insufficient testing to determine the migration of paint compounds into the surrounding plastic. Curiously, the medallion and rear sanctioning logo are crystal clean. I've included two specimens as the first has less discoloration due to age-related oxidation while the second has better print detail in the medallion, specifically in the mushroom cloud and the ball-pin impact.
