I love the background on the first picture,LOL.
Key could be made by any good locksmith person, they usual 3 or 4 lever lock, if you have blank key, you can try, not really difficult, for sure at the beginning you will mess up a little few key(dozen or so), i do all my key for my steel bank(i collected them for 30 years), this one is little much older than the previous post 1915-20

What is the serial number on the handle ??

The number on the handle is 58... I guess this indicates it was early in the run? :) My family grew up in Sheridan Indiana and I just happened to be at this auction... The book banks I have 8 of them and will be giving them to my 5 remaining aunts and uncles who grew up there... I thought that would be very cool... are the keys universal?

Yes, this is the account number of the customers(in this case, customer #58), link with this bank, that's why i mention, in addition of how long this Chartered bank was in service we can guess the rarity.
2 digit are nice to find(one digit is the best,)i have one from the Vancouver Trust Company with serial number #2, this trust company operated in business 4 years.

The key was always keep by the teller, few key could open several account number(no matter, when the teller open it)of course, usual key was unique to the Bank,
Did you have coins inside, that's why you want to open it ?
Your book Bank, what manufactured company made them?
