The ink well is made from the nose/ time fuze of an artillery shell. It is mounted on a four leaf clover base that has the date 1917 engraved.

The nose screws off to reveal a small vial with cork stopper that could be filled with ink.

The pen stands are held in place with bullet tips. The actual pen stands are shell brass that has been engraved to resemble leaves.
