    Sad iron which opens in the middle to show two waffle grids. I have never seen one like this, can anyone help or tell me how they use this sad iron.

      YES (I think, anyway?) Congru -- its got to be for ironing pleats/ruffles/stuff like that?? When people actually ironed their clothes, that is. . . ??? ;-) :-)
