My aunt was a Weaver, living in Santa Fe New Mexico. She often went to the Indian markets and purchased pottery. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this particular piece.

Do you recognize the signature or know the artist?
This isn't Native American Indian pottery, made in the U.S. It is a Latin American import, or made to look like one.
The design pattern is basically Mata Ortiz (Mexican, no tribal affiliation) with influences from Native American Indian pueblo pottery, although the effigy figure itself is found in several Central and South American cultures. But Mata Ortiz potters do not sign like this (they use a thinner incised line), and they make a rounded bottom on their pots.
No U.S. Native American potters, in fact, sign in this way. Santa Fe is known for its crafts from all over the world, so where something was purchased may have noting to do with where it was made. You can safely eliminate U.S. Native American Indian, however.
