I believe this to be a Cannon Ball. It is very heavy, made of iron and is 2-1/2" diameter. It seems to have a small flat spot. Does anyone have more info?

I have one that I bought at a garage sale this last summer, it's a 3" and looks just like yours.

Does it have a small flat spot? If they all do, then I'm thinking it was maybe to keep it from rolling. Could also be only mine has a flat spot. From what I'm seeing, they can be quite valuable.

Most of iron balls encountered today are not cannon balls. If you post an accurate weight and confirm the diameter (not circumference), I'd be happy to check the shot tables from the Civil War.

Being out of round, doesn't bode well for it being an actual cannon ball.

6pdr. was 3.67" in dia & 12pdr was 4.62" if that helps. If not perfectly round, - forget "cannon ball".
