This has been in my husband's family for years; we're not sure how old it is. We found it in 2006 after the death of his father. I'm unable to find any company name on the scale or on the box. Some of the weights have the letters DWTS. Does anyone know what that means??? We'd love to know more about it, how old it is, where it may have come from. If anyone has info that can help me, please let me know!!!

I'm not an expert. DWTS = pennyweight. 24 grains = 1 dwts, 20 dwts = 1 ounce - these are Troy weights for measuring gold, silver etc. Apothecaries used grains, scruples, drams, ounces and pounds as weight units. If the weights are part of the original balance set, I would suggest that it was for precious metal trading, jewellers or similar trade and not an apothecary. I hope that this is of some use to you.
