      AR8Jason & ROBinHawaii are correct.
      Probably used for grinding, brazing, oxy/acet welding, oxy/acet cutting, etc. Most lenses now a days are a poly-carb composite, as splatter does not stick to that as it does glass and it is more shatterproof.
      The leather piece across the bridge is to help completely seal off the the eyes. The small holes in the side of the leather side pieces are anti-fog holes. I do not believe they are WW II vintage, much newer.

      Agree Rob is correct on these.

      These are often mis- IDd as aviator glasses to justify a higher price.

      I got these ones from the same person and below is a link to a pair just like them dated back to the 1830's I don't know why I pick them up I guess I thought they were all interesting looking
