Baynton, C. S. | Field Camera | 1891- 1926 | Half Plate.
Catalogue No. 0233.
C. S. Baynton, Exchange Buildings, New Street, Birmingham. Established 1891, traded at the same address until his death in 1926. Took over the business of Samuel Hulme, another Birmingham maker at the same address, in 1894. Baynton's business was mainly in retail photographic products. This Baynton camera is one of the very few known with his label, and is impossible to date with any accuracy, although with its square cornered bellows and dovetail construction, it is likely to be earlier in his career than later. For use with wide-angle lenses, the back can be detached and moved to a forward position on two brass supports.
