A friend of mine worked for the company who made the 1988 Olympic Torch heads (The handles were made of wood and were made by a different company, as was the torch cap) They were to only make the contracted amount of torch heads (around 150) and then the dye was supposed to be destroyed - he made two additional torches - kept one, and second one he eventually gave to me.
This is very rare, as it is in its raw form (not polished).
I lived in Calgary during the 88 Olympics and this item is a great reminder of that event. Knowing that only a small number were made to begin with, and that this is even more special because of this is one of two that were acquired outside of the contracted number - makes this very special, and highly collectable.

      Hi Johnga,

This is a really cool piece and its awesome that you have such a cool story about it. Having one of only 2 truely unique pieces of Olympic history is awesome. I have much more info on Olympic Collectibles on my site http://www.olympicartifacts.com if you want to learn more about medals, torches, or other Olympic objects.

Thanks for your note - and sorry is only took me 4 months to respond (I couldn't remember where I posted this (getting old)
I very much enjoyed your site - you have a lot of great information - and it is obvious that you put a tremendous amount of work into it.
I am looking to sell my item - but don't know the best way to go about it. If you have any suggestions - I would very much appreciate it. (my email: Johnga@me.com)
      Take care - John
