I was left this singer sewing machine when my partners grandmother passed away. What I know about the machine it that is came out to Australia (the year the Queen was born) it had been handed down two my partners grandmother from her mother before they came out to Australia from England. I would love to know how old it is and how to thread + maintain it so I can show our grandchildren how to use.
    Thank you

All I could find out about your machine is that it was made in 1873 . I am still learing about these old machines although I have been collecting and restoring them for years there are so many models and so very much to learn . Yours has what is called a shuttle bobbin and I think it may be a model 127 handcrank in what is called a bentwood case . All the decals are gone and it appears as if it may have been painted at one time because it looks to have some black paint on the serial number . That does effect its value somewhat. Condition is everything to a collector of these machines . But the sentimental vaule often outweighs the monetary value . I hope I have been of some help .

      Hi Kezza,
It's most likely a VS3 or 28, and if the serial number is 11269901, it dates to 1894. It could be a VS2 or 27 model, but they're less common in portables.

If you enter the letters VS in the search box, it will give you the free downloadable manual for the earlier 1889 VS2. The main difference between the VS2 and VS3 is the size, but all the instructions will be relevant for your machine. Your machine is later than 1889 and doesn't have the fiddle base, but otherwise it's the same.

Thank you Bernadette for posting the correct information on this machine . Like I said I am still learning about these old Singers . I was not sure about the model on this one . Now I know . kezza should still be able to find a free download manual for it .
