a picker just brought these coins to me to ask what they are and what they might be worth. i don't collect coins anymore, so i told him i would post photos of them and let him know anything i could find out about them.

is there another site somewhere where it's possible to speak more directly about values when someone is interested in selling something? i don't really understand why we can't speak more directly about values and sales on this site, but i want to respect the rules regardless.

I like the coins but love the idea of being able to discuss values of items.

At first glance your scans through the plastic make me think that these are modern fantasy designs made for the tourist market. If so they are probably not even silver.

no, these are real - i have no doubt.

it's been unclear for me, but i'd like to know as well. i just wish we could more frankly discuss value. it seems like all the sites which focus on value are pay-to-use sites and there isn't any forum where we can participate. i understand it is a touchy subject because dealers can influence the market that way, i guess.

I too thought that the prohibition was for using the site to buy and sell. Values are an important part of collecting-- I have often given ballpark figures of values on items and am not aware of an issue with doing it here.

you could be right. i guess it's mentioning whether something is for sale or not that is not ok. even so, it seems like a good idea to have a forum for people who are selling and buying stuff to discuss both openly.

From Collectors Weekly what's appropriate here link:

"While an item’s value will sometimes be a part of the conversation, Show & Tell is mostly a forum for communicating with other users, learning from each other, and just having fun!"

As far as values go look them up in the Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause Publications. If you can't find them listed in SCWC that is a bad sign. When I worked on the SWCW we had some top Chinese Specialists write up that section. It is complicated and hard to use if you don't first read the introductory and explanatory sections.
