We are in a quandary about our Asian monk. It came down through our family and the story goes as follows: Given to my Grand father in Seattle in the early 1900's from his employer stating it came from Mongolia on a clipper ship and is several centuries old. We think he is made of teak wood and uniquely balanced on one foot to it's a wooden base(picture 1&4). The hands are fitted into the arms.(see picture 2). It stands 20 inches high. It has a marking on the right leg (picture 3). We have had possession of this statue for the past 38 years but letting several universities look it over, the poor old monk lost it's staff and both eyes. Another item drawing attention are the animals and other items draped around his neck. All in all a very interesting carving . We would like some one to give us a idea of it's approximate time frame.

This is very likely Chinese, not Mongolian, as it looks to be from there, and Mongolia is a landlocked country, while China is not! Neat piece!
