Very rare sea chest dated 1762. It was obtained from a wealthy local family who has owned it since the family brought it over from England in the early 19th century. It's in remarkable shape with only minor, expected wear. Wonderful patina. Original list of items it contained is still present. It is quite large and impressive, measuring 25 X 30 3/4 X 47 inches (including hardware, such as the side handles and brass front knob).
Crazy nice! Is all the hardware original?
Yes. Hardware is all original.
There is another post about 25 trunks ago that appears to be the exact same one or a duplicate. Are you the same owner?
That's the guy I recently sold it to. Didn't realize he was on here!
Thank you for sharing your trunk. I have one almost identical with a date of 1815 and letters CEMS that I purchased in West Berlin, West Germany in 1973. We have traveled around with it (to include CA, GA, TN, MI, and back to GA. ) I am happy to learn that it is a sea chest since I had assumed It was more likely a trunk for a coach since it was located so far inland.
