National Music Museum
The National Music Museum, which is located at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, features 15,000 instruments from around the world. Many can be viewed on the museum’s website, where you can browse an alphabetical Maker Index or pick and choose topics from the Virtual Tour page. Highlights of the collection include the Alan G. Bates Harmonica Collection, an 1895 Decker piano with a Janko keyboard, a 17th-century coiled trumpet from the Imperial City of Nürnberg, and a Chet Atkins Gibson guitar with a Mark Camden painting of Ryman Auditorium on its body.
