This is an early image of the famous American Writer Mark Twain (I believe this photograph is from 1871).
The image was photographed by Gurney of New York.
This particular image has a great period ink identification of both "Samuel L. Clemens" and "Nom de plum, Mark Twain". Period ink adds greatly to desirabilitiy of this particular image.
Reproduction of these images in any form is prohibited.

I'm actually related to this fellow. My Grandmother had all kinds of great stories about him.
Wow amber-- it must be great to have that kind of family connection! I have always loved his writing and humor.

Agreed! Wish I got an ounce of that wit. I know there are family photos. I must track them down.
His published (and produced in a fair quantity) images such as this one are very popular and desirable (and worth a good bit).
Unpublished family photos would be a true TREASURE (to the world)-- good luck in finding them!
