I was passing through Moriarty, New Mexico and stopped at a small flea market. I found this unusual signed pin. The lady, Josie Dominguez sold it to me for $ 5.00. It ims signed CHANEL but no CCs. It is very old and the paint has flaked off. I believe it is pot metal. The closure works great. It has beautiful purple stones. If you know anything about this unusual pin and who the artist is, I would greatly appreciate the information.
ADDENDUM:
So I found this out:
This pin is signed Chanel in script on the back, but the actual company that made this pin in 1941 was the Chanel Novelty Co that later changed their name to the Reinad Novelty Co. Coco Chanel sued the company over the use of the Chanel name. Therefore, this pin was only made and signed Chanel for a short production time.
What a pretty brooch and very interesting story.
These pins are very collectible precisely because they've only been made for a short time. The condition of enamel is very important.
