I've had this for a few months, and have been wondering about it. At first I did not think it is antique. Now I am not sure. Very heavy looks like redware. Stands about 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide at the bottom. A deep cobalt blue glaze and what looks like some faded yellow slip decoration. I am really curious to see what others think.
What would this have been used for? Poison or liquor with a cork in the top??? THanks
I love the color and texture.
Nice. Shame its not marked. I have a couple similar, though not blue or quite the same shape, but ones marked, i know who made it and roughly when (it was between 1900-14) but the others like this, nothing, its a shame, i wonder if there's a way to tell their age?
Just to add, mine are small too, about 4-5 inches, i thought they would probably be small flower vases.
I had always thought that...and this is for older pottery...that the red clays came from the West and white from Middle West and East. Very general rule of thumb.
Yours looks red to me, so maybe a start?
Hi everyone thanks for the help. I am not even sure this is "red ware", maybe I should have called it "red clay". AmberRose, you are correct it looks reddish.
