This was in the "to donate" pile. I figured I should double check this one. Took a good close look, and I figured I would put this one here to be sure. This is a tiny stone held in by the world's tiniest bolt. Really amazing, no idea if it is gold, if it is probably low quality, but really cool work. No idea if it is older, but I thought it may bring some opinions or ideas out. Thanks everyone!

It looks to be old because of the style, clasp and the wishbone...
In Old England, is was a custom to save the breast or "wishbone" of a holiday fowl such as a chicken or goose, and to dry it until it became hard and brittle. Then, two children would get to pull at opposite ends of the bone while making a wish. The one whose piece came out the largest was supposed to have his or her wish come true – hence the name "wishbone".
Wishbone charms and amulets began to appear frequently during the 18th Century, and were made of many types of metal, ranging from pewter to gold. It was often customary to wear a combination of several good luck charms, including the horseshoe and rabbit's foot.
The symbol of the wishbone became popular during Christmas time and was often illustrated on holiday greeting cards, along with holly sprigs and mistletoe branches.

Thanks Sean and doc. I had a feeling it could be old. Under high magnification the metal looked old. The stone itself is set pretty well. Could it be a ruby?

You are welcome... Even if it's not fully gold with ruby, it's beautiful and I would keep it :)

I was under a different impresson with looking at the pin size older ones the pin point is usually llonger unless it has worn away either way it is very nice & as DrFluffy I would also love to own. Then again I'm no expert on anyting only what I have picked up here & there.
