Found this trunk for sale, and it appears to be quite large. It also appears to have a few issues with it, such as the leather straps are gone, the belt buckle part of the front straps are gone, the lock is broken, the left latch appears to be broken, and all the internals are gone.

Besides the problems, I really like the look of it. Appears to have iron hardware if I'm judging it correctly, and possibly is covered in leather. I don't believe its a canvas covering, and its not metal, so I assume leather. All and all, it is a very unique and interesting trunk, but I'm not sure if I should hold out for something better, or jump on it? (its worth mentioning the wife is going to make me wait for a while after this next purchase before I can "collect" any more)

Any background help on this would be very helpful, and opinions on quality as well. Also, if someone knows how much work it would be to replace the damaged/missing parts, that would be very useful to know as well.

    Thanks!

Just a brief comment -- we usually do not offer opinions about items people wish to buy -- this site is more a commentary show and tell about items we already own. This trunk does not have any leather on it at all. Entirely vulcanized fiber...(go figure eh -- hard to tell -- although the green does look like canvas) Fabulous hardware and look to it though...
It is exciting to learn about trunks and to start collecting them -- welcome to CW!!!! (Later today I will comment on your other trunk)

Thanks for comment, wasn't aware of the guidelines that I should follow in here. I'm pretty sure I'm swinging by to pick this one up today as I love the look of it, so will own it soon enough.

Any idea how difficult it will be to fix those broken pieces on it? Better to fix them or just replace them?

This is a very unique trunk. Never seen anything like it before. It looks to have guides on the sides which is unusual if not rare. If you go to Brettons villiage site you will find most any replacement parts. There are other sites as well. Just google antique trunk parts. There is the debate about restore versus refinish, depends on what you like to do. Looks like lots of fun to me.

Don't feel too bad, I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago when I started on here (learned the hard way)
Here is a site that will give you a free appraisal because they hope to buy your items, which might make their appraisal on the low end(?)
