Two statues with St Pierre carved on bottom

I found these carvings at a garage sale. Very interesting. They are not heavy. Not sure what the wood type is. I researched St Pierre but could not determine if this is the artist or a location of origin. The detail is amazing and the positions of the carvings remind me of "The Thinking Man" Any information on the history of these carvings would be appreciated
