Here is a well made piece of costume. Something is telling me it is sterling underneath the fading gold tone. Looks like a modern clasp right? Thanks!!!

The design is very intricate. The bling looks to be paste and pot metal... Here is the article about paste. I would start researching with paste and see if you can find one like it.

Very..very interesting. I buy "goodie bags" from the thrift stores of all the jewelry that doesn't sell for a couple of dollars. I have all kinds of little pieces like this laying around that I assumed were junk. I am glad I "pasted" this. haha, thanks drfluffy!

Can I ask you...how did you ID this as "paste"?

It's really just a guess. I look at settings, the design, and over all look. I think older jewelry was heavier. So, just a bunch of variables. And at the end of the day, I just do a lot of guessing. For a while I spent hours on line looking at jewelry :)

Wouldn't you say this is a newer piece based on the clasp?

That crossed my mind too... So it's a toss up.

Paste or not it is beautiful & would look really nice on the Wright article of clothing

Do you know anything about the blue light test is so why don't all paste or diamonds show under light. Sometimes it just has the purple hue other times nothing at all , Then it will increase there colour mixtures, I know with pearls if they change to a green or some such coloue then it is paste it's when it doesn't change I'm wondering about.
