I found this cute little buckle ring in a costume jewelry pile at a garage sale. If the price is cheap I try to wait until I get home to check for a mark, that way I buy it because I like it not because I think its worth something. I brought it home and found it was inscribed Fiona 9-12-79 J.J. Ltd and what looks to be an Enlish hallmark with an lowercase "n" inside a shield. I'm hoping someone can tell me when exactly the ring was made and where.
Nice find!! With the marks, you can bet it's silver. =)
I have a similar one:

Wow Nadia I really love that modernist ring with the purple stone in front. Who designed that one do you know?
It was probably a wedding ring or for a new baby or something like that. Yes its sterling, when hallmarks are that small they are hard to make out, but here are the date-marks

stunning sara:)
The letter is a lowercase n inside a shield which could make it from a couple possible dates.
Nadia can you show a single shot of your buckle ring and that really neat purple one?
Thank you Tom,Amberose,Nadia,Sean,Lee,thoscahaba, and bratjdd for the love:)
vetraio, I found an Australian jewelery mark J.J. Ltd. It would be neat if it hailed from your part of the world:)
Thank you vetraio, Phil, and belltown for the love:)
Thank you BHock, Kerry, inky, and toolate2
Can you see what the other characters are on the hallmark? Once you determine what they are you can figure out what city it was made in as well as when. Can you post a close up of the mark, like you did for the inscription?. It may be Scottish, but can't see the mark too well.
sarahoff, the funny thing is that I found a bracelet that looks just like this ring!!!! I will post it later tonight. The little one is a terror today, 3 is not an easy age. I wonder if you could try to get another picture of the hallmarks?
Here is my opinion, I do think it is sterling silver, the color is right. The marks do not lead me to believe it is English. I do not see the rampant lion, and that concerns me. I am actually thinking American. But maybe not.
The problem with the phrase" terrible twos " is that it gives parents a false hope that three will be better:) Here's a new shot of the marks, the second one looks like a funny looking chicken:)
I agree sarahoff!!! I am sorry, I can't really make these out, I am a little tired today, so I will try again when I wake up.....whenever that may be. Talk to you soon!! Take care!
Thank you Mary and BHock i do appreciate you trying to help:)
I finally figured out the mark. Dublin 1979 mark, I really had to search this one out because its difficult to find modern dublin year marks.
I found the year mark on http://www.pipephil.eu. Dublin mark section.
Hi Sara, happy new year.
Very cute ring. I like the daintiness of it.
I like your ring too Doc, yours is more robust.
Thanks Aimathena for the love and kind comment:)
You're very welcome :)
