Quite coincidentally, after Alfredo posted his newest pachyderm, one came my way, courtesy of a plain item description and a ridiculously low BIN. Actually - it was a more accurate description - Vintage Handmade Clear Glass Elephant Vase Bowl - a description as accurate as it was inadequate. It also has a tusk issue, which is an easy fix, especially for the price.
Alfredo's elephant was in Cristall Martele; mine is in Cristall Glatt (smooth crystal). My elephant also has a nearly invisible Czecho Slovakia acid stamped oval mark on the bottom of its front left foot. So, we have later production of an early form, made more then 20 years after it was introduced.
The legs are solid glass, and the thick wall in the elephant body make for a very heavy piece - somewhere between 4 and 5 pounds! The last photo above shows the piece in situ - at home in a glass jungle!
