I have had this for years! My Grandmother gave it to me, claiming her uncle gave it to her. The skeleton key is missing, the glass is gone. I wish I new some history on this as well. I plan to someday refurbish it, as it is a keep sake.

Refurbishing how? Glass and a key? That is minor anything more is a good way to ruin it.

Agree again-- finish looks pretty good on this one. Replace the glass, but don't mess with the wood.

I just noticed there is print on the hinges, but I cant see it and I don't have a magnifying glass. It looks like it might say Glasgow?? my grandmother was from Scotland. I'll have to pick one up. I will take ur advice! Thanks so much!

I will tell you the same thing I tell everyone. If you collect furniture or clocks, wherever you go look for old keys. Even if they don't fit your piece buy them. Key collectors ( in my experience) love to swap keys. Sooner or later you will get the one you need.

OK, it is fun. Research John Stewart and see what you find. You are on your way, hit Google with John Stewart and have a good bunch of fun.
