Unusual Venini Art Glass Vase. Depicts a Ladybug in the center of a Flower (or grass). Signed, "Venini Italia". This is only the third one of these I have ever seen; I'd love to know who designed it. Approximately 8" x 8".
All glass; no paint.
stunning vase :)
Thanks SEAN68. My wife agrees; she adopted it as her own when she saw it :)
your very welcome twentiethc :) I would done the samething she did:) and would have not given it back :) lol:)
Moonstonelover21, charcoal, vetraio50 : Thanks for the loves.
DrFluffy, thanks for the love.
I have seen that signature before. I am trying to find where I found it. The two R's! I have an idea but am not sure because I have not found reference to his working at Venini.
aldo78, Thanks for the love.
vetraio50, I actually though the 2 R's was a simplistic representation of a ladybug :)
What I have found to-date is as follows:
One very similar piece was sold back in May 2013 from the collection of Laura Venini Hillyer (Daughter of Paulo Venini).
There was also a retrospective exhibition (Novantesimo Venini) on the decades of Venini 1921 - 1911. Another nearly identical piece was a feature of the exhibition.
Hi! I have now seen the Laura Venini Hillyer bowl of May 25-26.
Thank you.
I think I have it!
The Italian word for Ladybug is "coccinella" .
There is another for sale in Italy that mentioned the series that it comes from is called 'Primavera' or Spring.
That led me to this catalogue entry that suggests:
Öwe Thorssen e Brigitta Karlsson
Vaso della serie “Primavera“ con decoro di canne verticali e, al centro, una murrina a forma di coccinella, 1973/1974 circa.

OT and BK rather than two R's!
Vetraio50: Fantastic research! Thank you so very much. I see the OT (Outer "O" with "T" in the middle), and the BK (both conjoined with the "T"). This fills in all the gaps nicely!.
You're welcome 20thC. It has been 'bugging' me since you posted it!
Catharsis!
Perfectly understandable. I've been on research crusades for exactly the same reason myself. My wife says it's a sign that I'm obsessed ... but then I tell her I'm only obsessed until I figure it out :) Odd, that never seems to make her feel better ...
Hi again!
I was wondering about your comment:
"I actually though the 2 R's was a simplistic representation of a ladybug :)"
Perhaps the ladybug in the centre of the bowl is actually a "signature cane"?
I can see the OT & BK within the bug.
obsessed
adjective = absorbed, dominated, gripped, caught up, haunted, distracted, hung up (slang), preoccupied, immersed, beset, in the grip, infatuated, fixated, having a one-track mind.
Yeah that's it!
Guilty as charged ...
This one's so lovable!!!
Thanks to austrohungaro, mikelv85, robinlee, and Vintagefran for the loves.
Doing a little research and you just solved my mystery - seven years later. Thank you vetraio50 and twentiethc. Will post a photo of the piece no longer in question!
