I generally try to stick to Coca-Cola signs pre-1970, but this fun 3-dimensional piece caught my eye. I am not sure of exact year, but it's similar to one listed in Petretti's as 1970. I'm thinking it's later than that, since the base reads "The Original". Also, the side of the cup is printed "IT's carbonated!" Wow!!!! How exciting!!!! ;)
As those Pickers fellas say: The time to buy something like this is when you see it. At 41% book value, this lighted sign by maker Mirro was listed at a fair BIN price. So, Old Man Nobucks jumped out of his rocker to pull the trigger (then needed a nap soon after).
There are condition issues: The straw is cracked at the base and frozen Coke lid paint is peeling. I will work on a tasteful, minimally intrusive restoration. For now, I'm enjoying it placed next to Command Central. Motor is quiet and it goes round and round... and round...and...
Have a super weekend everyone.
Dave
Thank you aycockonxion for viewing, always good to see you.
Great find Dave! I'm sure most of these have some sort of damage to them. Just too delicate to not have, but it looks good from here!
Gracias Perry. It's taking some time to find the right spot. It's not like anything else in my collection, so I'm really not sure what to do with it. My kids love the thing!
Thanks Michael for stopping by. Hope it's going good.
Yep, kids are funny like that. No matter how big it is, if it lights up and looks BIG, they dig it!
I am pre-1970 too, but this is a sweet item!
Thanks jameyrd. Where I grew up we called these Slurpees (sold by 7-11). I've moved just 60 miles west here in Michigan, and over here they call them Slushees. I think too Icees in some quarters. Hey, I appreciated you taking a look and the kind words.
Thanks smiata for visiting.
This is a great piece. I would love to have things like this on my ice cream/snowball truck, just don't have extra space. Cute story & nice office... enjoy it in good health.
Thank you Aimathena. I spend a lot of time in this end of the Coke Cave and I'm low on space as well (had to move an electronic piano keyboard to fit this in). Though I imagine an ice cream truck would look cool decked out in vintage signage, great idea. I appreciate your comments.
You're very welcome.
I've been trying to figure out a theme for my ice cream truck for a few years. Thanks for the great vintage sign idea. I've already purchased a few beverage and food tins.
saw that on there. Great buy!
Thanks 42. 7 bucks for your huge frozen Coke display...now that was a great buy! Looks to be same vintage.
