This piece illustrates the importance of looking high and low, on shelves and in display cases, when hunting at antique shows. I found this little salt among several other miniature items in a display case in a both run by one of my favorite dealers. The iridescence on the inside is downright luxurious. It's a small piece- about 4" long, 2" wide, and 1" tall. For such a small piece, it really packs a wallop. Cobalt Papillon outside, Silver iridescence inside, fire polished rim, ground and polished pontil. Thanks to Dave for helping me find the line drawing!
Made for Ludwig Fränkel, Berlin, 1905.
Thanks, Gary - as soon as I saw it, there was no question that it was coming home with me :)
Warren, love this one! Wow!
BTW, this is a cool piece like you said :)
Good eye! great discovery. Thanks for sharing photos of this unique piece of Loetz!
Can you imagine a set of table service in a Loetz decor?!!! How amazing would that be?!
