This Italian pottery has intrigued me from the first time I saw a piece. That is a bad thing because I wound up buying it. In the 4 years or so that I have owned it I have only seen two other pieces. One of them is part of the collection and the other was a bowl that got away. I have search for HJB and JBH pottery but have not found the proper name for the pottery company. I believe the bowl was also signed by the same artist, but I can't be 100% sure. I am hoping someone has more information on the pottery and the artist MARI.
The dancers vase is quite large measuring 13 3/4"h x 9" at its widest, top is 2 5/8" diameter with the base at 6 3/4" diameter. It has 8 panels decorated in gold featuring dancers, within 2 of the panels one of the girls is playing a tamborine. Each panel features rock and roll dancing which I find to be really very cool with the guys are wearing bellbottoms. lol It is signed MARI on one of the panels and on the underside has the pottery mark, but it is very difficult to make out being that the glaze is just too thick.
The second vase is by the same company and is fully marked in gold on the underside (monogram HJB with what is likely pattern and model numbers). Signed MARI on the closeup pic along with an oval foil sticker which reads Hand Painted HJB (monogram) Made In Italy. I believe they are trick riders or part of a carnival act. Both are perforning tricks as they ride their horse. Both vases have heavy drizzle white glaze and this one like the other is painted using gold. Measures 11 7/8"h x 6" at its widest, with the base measuring 2 1/2" x 3". There is also a serpent wrapped around the neck which leads from the body of the vase.
I had to do some restoration on the horseriders vase, the top was broken but the vase was so cool in my eyes that I knew it would be worth the effort. I get alot of enjoyment seeing them even though the company name is still a puzzle.
If anyone knows the name of the pottery I would love a message. Thanks all for your help.
Eddie
Both are wonderful!
Thanks for the love Vetraio.
Always appreciate your input. Any idea on the pottery name?
Hi mate! I'm looking. Can you agg another picture of the bottom markmon the second piece? B might be Brescia. J is not in the Italian alphabet, though it is used. I see black and these days think San Marino but .....
I'm on the case!
Thank you Sean, Amber & moonstone....
Hi vetraio... Sorry I was not able to do the image sooner. Been busy with a friend's show. I do appreciate all your input.

Thank you geo26e
Beautiful!!
While cleaning out my mother-in-laws estate, we found a piece of this in blue. I don't see a way to post a picture to this chain. There is a male figure on one side that appears to be in a "lounging" position and a female on the other side that has jumped into the air. The bottom has the same marks but neither of the figures are signed as yours are. My mother-in-law was born in the U.S. but her parents both came from Italy. She traveled there throughout her lifetime and probably purchased this on one of her many trips.
Here's a bowl on etsy.

Hi LOVELYLEE .... I'm hoping you will post your cupa nd saucer. I would LOVE to see them !!!
Thanks LOVELYLEE !!!
Now we know a part of the story of these vases !!!!
The J.B.H mark is the same as those found on many of the bookends and wares here on CW championed by RLWINDLE: J. B. Hirsch.
Joseph B. Hirsch began the New York Art Bronze Works in Manhattan’s lower east side in 1907. He imported pieces from French foundries and sold them to the US market.

I suppose the link between the bookends and these vase is the 'sculptural' form.
The next step is to find out who "MARI" was !!!
Thanks to LOVELYLEE for the stimulus to again revisit this post armed with the STANDEY ARTS idea.
Reminds me of a Etruscan civilization ( the modern English name given to the culture and way of life of a people of ancient Italy and Corsica whom the ancient Romans called Etrusci or Tusci. The origins of the Etruscans are lost in prehistory. If I have a clue this, of course is just art in the style perhaps, of what sticks in my head as Etruscan style brought creatively up to date & modernized.--in this nice piece.

The origins of the Etruscans are lost in prehistory. But their ancient art remains. Your piece just give me the feel of it--for what it is worth.
OOps--Repeated myself--I have vision in one eye only, by evening I can barely see what I wrote or if I repeat myself. I was trying to combine what I was saying in an edited version. I tend to be too "long winded"

I found a matching pitcher today. About 12” tall. Same as yours with horse riders. Can’t see where to post a pic to this thread. Can I reach out to you for more info?
