Came across this desk at a garage sale. The imprint on the metal plate on the back of the desk is DU 12 SCH. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Well, first of all, if this was mine it wouldn't be sitting on a dirt floor. OK, that being cleared up, these were (keyword = were) poorly made inexpensive desks. Years ago they were (keyword again) pretty common. The joints weren't the best and the proper (desktop) was made of multiple pieces of low grade wood which made writing on them next to impossible. Institutions on a budget bought them and I suspect that is where your tag came from. After purchase the desk was tagged and entered in inventory before being sent to the office or department that was to use it. I believe the DU 12 would probably be a district unit. If we jump to a conclusion the sch might be a school, and that is possible. But the inventory was hand written or typed and it could also be the schedule number.
Now the keyword. They were. I impress that simply because these were throw away items of the day. They were pretty much given away, thrown away or used as fire wood when replaced. Every one of them discarded made what was left worth a bit more. It isn't worth a fortune but you could do dinner for two with drinks at a steak house.
Thank you fhrjr2. The spot where the desk was sitting was temporary and since has been moved and getting ready to restore. The price was right and the history is interesting.
