Be aware of fake pin up silver cigarette cases appearing on ebay see typical attached . Modern ceramic plaques are being stuck on genuine hallmarked cases and compacts increasing their value enormously. True vitreous enamel is powdered glass fused by heating. Many cases from the 20s and 30s feature pin ups by Gil Elvgren which were not even painted until decades later. The sellers are careful to point out in the description that these are not hand painted enamel. If purchasing a sterling silver enamelled cigarette case , vesta case or compact ask the vendor if the picture is bonded vitreous enamel or a plaque that has been glued on at a later date. Don't pay over £300 for a £50 item !!!!
