AboundingO…
(24 items)
I have held many opportunities to have beautiful items in my momentary collections, such as this little boys jacket, won by a child the day he died...the date was hard to determine, but the facts were not since it was wrapped safely with a note from his mother.
I was able to finally find the closer photos. The child is the boys older brother wearing the jacket, and years later.
beautiful:)
I had forgotten this had a price on it...I am not offering this for sale. It's just a beautiful piece of history that I had the chance to hold in my collection once.
Thanks, Sean...it truly is
The style of the jacket is in the style of a uniform and suggestive of a Civil War era date.
If you can add some additional jpgs of the photograph, I can probably confirm it is CW era and bracket the dates a little more.
Also a photo of the "letter" would be interesting to see.

Hi Scott. It would be from that era or slightly afterwards. The cut of the jacket and sleeves reminded me of German for some reason. I know I have a closer photo somewhere...it would be interesting to get a closer view, because the moms note didn't date it exactly. I knew the family this came from, some of their history, and the childs approximate age and era.
Looks like there is a good chance it is an ambrotype which would date as Civil War or slightly earlier, STRICTLY based on the photographic process.
Too bad the thermoplastic wall frame is damaged.
You should be able to easily take it out of the frame and confirm it is an ambrotype. Do NOT touch the actual glass surface with the image when you get it out. Ambrotypes are a lot like daguerreotypes and the image itself can be wiped clean with even the slightest touch to the surface.

Thanks Scott. I know the people this is with now, so I'll pass on any information to them.
Thought that you owned-- feel like I wasted my time helping!
Why post someone elses item?
scott
I stated this WAS a part of my collection, not is...it shows prices on it (which the item is not for sale)
I feel that collecting is just like the history of the world...you hold it and own it for a moment, then it's gone.........why feel you wasted your time in studying history...the only waste, is feeling it's a waste
I hid nothing, but I do not apologize for loving my past, as much as I love history
nicely said abounding
Thanks to you both...yes, it does matter Jay, and I feel the same
