Can anyone date this in-store Coca Cola display sign, it is made of celluloid covered metal with a cardboard lining with a built-in stand. It shows a girl with an ostrich feather fan, so she is probably at a dance enjoying a glass of Coke.
Bought at a local general auction recently it is quite faded so I guess it has some age to it.

      Sure does, maybe 25-30 years!

yep, image is reproduced from the 1923 calender.
    3. officialfuel officialfuel, 11 years ago
Is the frame a reproduction also?

The frame is printed on the sign, but no that wasn't part of the calendar image.

Can't wait to see your next Coca-Cola piece posted Mr. officialfuel!

Very curious use of "Reg. U.S. Pat. Off." on this. Seems to be a compilation of 2 or more older Coke pieces, but I have a strange feeling this was actually put out by Coca-Cola.
So Red-red, what do you think?
A Super find.... and as far as I'm concerned, a rare one also!

How old do you figure it is Ray_ray?

My guess (only a guess) would be mid 1970's.... the way it's made, you can see it on top of a glass case at an Italian Pizza place.... on the rougher side of town.
Given out with no perceived value, not part of a campaign, it's amazing you were able to find it.... also that someone saved it from the odorous dumpster out back.
I love the easel-back, R. Woodruff would have dropped over if he saw this!

And that is a feather duster in the young ladies hand. So if she was dancing around, it was as she cleaned the house! During the first half of the 1900's, Coca-Cola worked hard to develop the household market. One has to remember, early on, Coca-Cola was mostly served at fountains and enjoyed by the bottle at corner stores. So, post WWI, their bottle ad campaigns turned focus in part to be aimed at wives and moms (who did the shopping... and house cleaning... and child rearing... and clothes washing... and... and... and...).

Today I bought the same item in a wooden frame, it is double sided and has a red haired woman on the reverse.

Having studied the pic again, it is definitely not a duster as it has two supports so it opens out into a fan, plus the fact that nobody dresses like that to do the housework!

You are absolutley correct! Thanks for the correction.
