This brooch I find so lovely of all the details of the image of Mary and baby Jesus. The brooch is in mint condition and the enamel has beautiful deep colors. It's tested gold plated over silver and is not marked at all. The diameter is 2.8 cm cm (1.1 inch). There are some photos taken with a digital magnifier so you can see the details. I personally feel that the brooch is made at the end of the 19th early 20th century because of the c-clasp. I appreciate your opinion especially with regard to the dating? Have fun watching !

Its from around 1880-1900: indeed the c-clasp, the tube hinge and the needle is a tiny bit longer than the brooch itself

      miKKo,

Thank you for all the attention and lovings you have given to many of my current jewelry and objects. Especially for your detailed comment on the paintings I published here on CW. I appreciate this very much!
I hope you do not owe CW prolonged absence of illness of you or your family. In any case, I'm very glad you're back here again together with other collectors and able to look the beautiful things, here published to share.
      Welcome back and thank you!

Usually, faces in religious paintings look more realistic towards the late 1880s - early 1900s, especially the eyes, but I would not hurry to conclusively date this pin earlier (about 1860) just based on that, because the small size and the skill of the artist may also have played a role in how detailed the picture is, so it's important to also carefully consider the way it was manufactured, for example, how that border around the image and the chasing were done.

davyd286 thanks for your detailed comments but assuming your comment like another question: how would you date this brooch itself?
Already many thanks for your answer. Awaiting your news
    21. davyd286, 11 years ago
Without looking closely and handling the brooch, my dating would be mostly guessing, but 1860 -1870 does not seem very unreasonable with what limited knowledge I can offer.

Thank you very much, Agram, for your very kind words! Delightful to admire your beautiful collection. Yes, health reasons have kept me away from CW, and will in future greatly curtail my visits to CW. When I can, I will sneak a peak at your latest treasures. Best wishes! miKKo
