We bought this pair of glass hand painted shades on Martha's Vineyard. They are 6" tall with a 2 1/4" fitter. We guess that the glass is carnival, no seams. The shades are not signed. The painting has high relief particularly on the castle. Does anyone have any information about hand painted shades that could help us to identify these shades?
We live in a 1930 French Norman Revival house with a turret, which folks call the "Castle House". These shades are perfect for the guest full bath, which is in the turret itself.
Antique Lamp Buyer's Guide, by Nadja Maril shows similar hand painted shades on page 86. They are shown on a ca 1920 brass pan style chandelier. The shades are denoted as period shades imported from Czechoslovakia, popular in the 1920's and 1930's.
Hope this helps and thanks for posting.
...and welcome to CW! : )
Carnival in Lights, by Helen Greguire. They are shown on page 35 as painted Marigold castle. Hope this help.
