Just picked this one up on the cheap. It appears to have been painted, and new straps were added at some point because they are still somewhat soft. I wonder if someone replaced the leather tabs on the insert because that leather is also still soft.
I have no idea of the date, but there is a patent number on hardware in picture #2 but I cant make the whole thing out.
While it didn't appear to be really fancy on the outside, the inside looks beautiful so I couldn't let it go, and the outside still looks nice I thought.
Any suggestions on tracking down a replacement key?
The interior is the best I have ever seen and I do love the lithographs! I have had luck for the locks. There is a locksmith in my area who specializes in antique locks. He has oiled the lock and provided a key for about $20. Of course I have to bring him the trunk, but then we enjoy talking antique locks. Have fun. Thanks for the post.
Thanks, TFF... I'll hunt around for a locksmith in the area and see if any would be interested in looking at it. I would like a key for every truck in my growing collection if I could, it just makes it feel more complete.
