18th Century Shop-keeppers cash boxes

I bought these on the same day from a local picker. He purchased them from the same estate. Shortly after buying them, I found an ad in a national antiques newspaper where an almost identical item was being offered for sale. I bought mine about 20 years ago.

I love the hardware, esp on the larger one. It appears someone broke into the lock on the larger item, and someone repaired the wood around the lock.

The interiors are both configured with two sections. I assume one side was for currency and the other side was for coins. The smaller one is 5" by 5.5". The larger one is 8" by 5.5"
