ANDE ROONEY MORTON SALT GIRL Porcelain Sign The Morten umbrella girl has shown the salt pouring in wet weather since she first appeared on the box in 1914. She was a mere alternative image in a Good Housekeeping advertising campaign layout when Sterling Morton ll, son of the founder, took one look at her and *knew immediately that we could find no better trademark.* Through the years, several updates have been made in her hair and clothing, but the basic trademark has remained. MORTON, the umbrella girl and "when it rains it pours" are trademarks of Morton International, Inc. Ande Rooney Porcelain sign is made from heavy 18 guage steel and then cleaned to improve the porcelain enamel adhesion. The colors are not paint, they are actually ground glass crystals that are used to create the colors, then bonded to the metal by a fusion process at over 800°F. Porcelain enamel provides a lifetime high gloss finish, with exellent durability to time. The porcelain enamel process is highly resistant to deterioration or change with long-term outdoor exposure. Measures- 12"H X 8"W Ande Rooney authentic reproduction porcelain enamel steel sign. Signs have holes "with grommets" for hanging.Made in USA

Love advertising, and the mortan salt girl is a highly iconic piece. I hadn't realized that porcelain was actually fired glass. I always thought it was just quality heat treated paints. Good info
