Picked these up when I lived in Jamaica. Jamaican friend showed me a canvass bag about 5" in dia. & about 4-5" deep in old silver coins. Said he was raising money for an operation his wife needed & these had been passed down thru his family for many generations. Bought 7 coins for a few bucks each to help out & having no idea of value. Gave them to my mother for B'day or Xmas & just got them back. Before I gave them to her, I tried to look up a few in The Hudson Bay store in Toronto. When I found out how much they were worth, I asked my friend if he wanted to sell more but he said he had raised the needed money. Actually, I may have pleaded a bit, but to no avail. Hope you enjoy! Not going to flood you all at once but will try to poste the others once in awhile.
Gee I wish I had this site before we sold everything for what it went for then the cost after I did all the research myself & could of even photo copied pictures they charged me thousands I would rather of given it away. But at the time I had just finished chemo & didn't even own let alone how to use a computer. No point in bitchin I would rather of put smiles on all your faces.
Pass the dutchie from the left hand side...;-)
Say wha Inky? Is that some NZ expression?
Very Jamaican...;-)
Mon, me not know that one. Maybe "town" expression? I'll toss it at our gate guards as they are all from St. Catherine area. Still having trouble accepting being guarded by Jamaicans! Of course, by now, they know I "pack" & anybody who messes around at my place runs the risk of getting an unwelcome large hole where they don't want or need one.
wow !! Blunderbuss "aka Bender" , very very cool my friend:)
Pass The Dutchie by Musical Youth song ... A "Dutchie" is a Jamaican cooking pot, and the song has nothing to do with cooking...eating maybe but not cooking...;-)
Isn't the Geo. III more valuable, Hems?
Know what you mean (Steve wasn't it?). I have friends in high places & high friends in places! Here, the latter is usually more helpful.LOL Thanks for the input. By the way, I'm bilingual when it comes to currencies. Afraid I ran black-market money too many years & never lost the knack.
Lucas, HMMMMM..... bilingual in money is always an important attribute. Not only for distribution but pocket change also. If you know what I mean.;-)
Yes kerry, I know what you mean. I have never lost the knack & living where we use 3 currencies kind of keeps those talents active. made a lot of "pocket change" by knowing the rates. Easy & sometimes even legal.
Got to agree wholeheartedly , been an important lesson learned a long time ago, still used today and probably tomorrow :-)
