This is a hope chest I got for my birthday, it was in fairly rough condition so the lady my parents bought it from painted it white to make the finish look better it was originally a green that you can see in some spots (see in pictures) . I helped pick it out, and the white was actually part of what I liked about it.

I want more help identifying it, timeline, what it's worth, make, etc. Just to know about the type of trunk I have.

One of the straps was broken when it was bought along with the left handle. But that's what I love with the character of the trunk. Basically I just want to know more about my beautiful trunk :)

    Thank you!

I know! I think that's what I fell in love with, how they modernized it but kept all the aspects of the original piece. It's beautiful! And I know! It's so tough to figure it out! But i would love to know more!

You have a lovely flat top trunk made around the late 1890's to early 1900's. The hardware on it (latches etc.) seem to be a standard issue type. The lock is most probably eagle company. The corner pieces and slat clamps look to be a thick metal gage or cast iron, which places them around the end of the 1800's. The from type and style of this trunk was common in its day with many makers producing similar types with common parts. The slat clamps are a little higher quality as you will notice they wrap around the wood at the ends. A well built good quality trunk. Most often those leather straps are long gone so you are fortunate to still have them. The "whitewash" effect is really a nice touch. Look at you local classifieds for value -- you should see similar makes for comparison. Without a label (and most do not have them) you will be hard pressed to discern a maker. A nice find and a good value trunk. Welcome To CW and thanks for the post.
