My aunt had one of these on the night table in her guest befroom for her guests to place their rings in while they were sleeping. I really liked the idea. So as soon as I saw this one I bought it to use in my home. I don't know what its actual name is. If you do please let me know. Thank you.

They came in different sizes and based on size were sold with different functions. Some were drink coasters, and there was a large bottle coaster for wine, and some sets were meant as personal ashtrays, with a cigarette holder and lighter as part of the set. Even a few were sold as both--called Coaster Ashtrays. And a few firms even had holders and little racks for them. Fisher, Whiting, W&S Blackington, and maybe 100 other names sold these in both sterling and silver plate.
