Maybe he is not the most handsome of fellows, but Joseph Jefferson found something he did well and stuck with it. This guy played the role of Rip Van Winkle for over 40 years! He died in 1905, so I am guessing this souvenir bronze was made while he was alive.
The backside says "Rip Van Winkle" "Jefferson Island Louisiana" but it is partially obliterated. Have also included a photo of his lovely 1870's home outside New Iberia Louisiana.
This was also the site of the "lake that disappeared" due to a drilling accident. It is worth googling if you want to hear more about that crazy incident
