Found this at a yard sale for $3 and the person did not know what it was. It's a heavy metal piece on a hinge measuring 10" in diameter by 6" height. It opens/closes. One side has lots of holes and other side has holes around edge. It appears to hang on wall with a missing hinge. There appears to be a painting on the side. Seems to have soot on it. Not sure if some kind of lantern? Can someone identify this?

What does the bottom side look like?

My guess is that it is for heating the round plate on top & not real hot.

this piece may be upside down? so the bottom is shown in photo #3. that piece appears to hold liquid? it has holes around the edges to be screwed down? there is an area along the edge with 2 loops to hook onto some kind of hinge attaching to a wall or table but this isn't shown in the photos. I don't have this item it belongs to a friend.

if the top piece is the one with all the holes could it be a burner?

This is a heavy piece. Will do some research online. Maybe it belongs to a boat?
