I've had this for many years. I can not remember the name of it, if Anybody knows, PLEASE send a message. It is very heavy, more so than a 20# bowling ball, different shades of brown as well as rust and orange. My guess is it is about 12-14 " round.

Depends on where it came from. Very early cannon balls were chiseled out of stone.

blunderbuss2- Hyia, I thought the same but this was given to My Pap years ago by a Native American Friend of His. I have several "Tiny" like the size of a thumb nail round but they are gray and some are flat on one end. Thanks for trying to help Me. Blessings, Debby

Yeah Tom. Seen a doc. on them. Made by ancient Indians who were so bored they made these. Maybe like one of those from Costa Rica by a tribe that maybe had to express their masculinity by making bigger & bigger balls.

I've seen many that were supposed to be in Costa Rico as well and it does look like that but I'm looking for the name, The Native American Man who gave this to My Pap was Navajo.

I liked your response T/A. I also feel like a scolded pupil, but got used to that years ago. Maybe it got to the Navajo from Costa Rica? I've carried mine much further than that many times. Oops, there I go again.

Mamma, you dropped the ball into our playing field & left everything wide-open. Don't think the Navajo used it for a game like football/soccer. Nobody else is coming up with a solid solution, so let us kick it around a bit. Sounds as if you are looking for the specific Injun who gave this to your Pap. Actually, it's fascinating but we can fill the void with humour can't we? Central Africa, Amer. Indians & Eskimo's never invented the wheel, so it seems strange that a Navajo comes up with a perfectly round ball. Maybe the Spanish shot it at them?

Not sure as I have a slab of petrified wood and some old fossil that is a real bone, some tools from the Navajo like a hand scrapper, several artifacts, My best item I have is an "Antique Turquoise Marble" found on the Ya~Ta~Hey Reservation. From the late 1800's and was used for gaming. If I can get this ("Beeping") camera to work, I'll upload some for Ya. I enjoy digging like this~
