This unique textile is from my great grandfather. It has been hangin in my grandmothers house since I can remember (i'm 50 years old)
We wanted to sell it at her Estate sale but did not know the origin or what it may be worth. The tale that was told about this piece was that my grandfather slipped it out of the Country ( which is either England or China). It was not supposed leave it's place of origin. She had an appraiser look at it many years ago and this is what the sheet read
"Islamic or Masonic embroidered Textile panel" ALSO WROTE "Designed in a variation of Horror Vacui style with a center roundel and a frame of mir-a-boteh amid a profusion of diminutive leaves on a black background"
It is roughly 45" X 45" and is framed. Overall size with frame is 49-1/2" X 49-1/2"
Has anyone seen anything like this? I can not find any pictures of anything like this anywhere.
I hope some of you enjoy this piece and have some feedback. It is a unique piece that i would love to keep but would love to know more about! Thanks for your time in advance!

I think it's middle eastern. This type of textile design is common in the middle east. If this is from your grandfather's era, then it is very possible that the thread may be silver. My mom has given me a similar one that was a part of her wedding ceremony stuff, and it is threated silver and it's beautiful like this. It's from 54 years ago.

      Thanks Aimathena,

I think so. It is a very unique piece and I have it hanging in my home. I get so many comments like that. Everyone asks where it came from. That...is what my quest is...Thanks again for your comment!

By the way DrFluffy, It was my GREAT Grandfather. They owned a Hotel in Shanghai when my grandmother was a little girl. She is 97 years old now. This has to be older than 50 years but...I'm just going by the story she told me. I never met him unfortunately...
