hi doll was found while clearing a friends attic , it has been in the family passed on for as long as anyone could ever remember, cant find any maker markings, (any clues to where they might be if there are any?) would love to know how to find out more about it as not seen a similar one anywhere.
based in london , uk
Where's Manikin?
Interesting doll!
Very nice doll with a beautiful face . Her body appears to be maybe have been replaced , it has had arms replaced for sure . However they did make bodies like this but your dolls head seems much better quality than usually found on these less than great bodies . She is made of compostion or paper mache it is very hard for me to tell by photo . Do you see hairline cracks in face ? That would help to know the material . The dolls are simply called Glass eye compostion or paper mache with mohair wig , as I can't tell yet her face material but arms and legs are compositon . She dates from around 1880 's . She has a woman's face vs a more child face making her much more desirable to collectors . Her chest plate can be repaired without decreasing her value much vs a repaired say China doll or bisque . Beautiful and collectible and carries more value than child like face but The arms were repaired to short so they are not correct for her and Not enough padding to reach end of shoulder, however that can be repaired also . Tell me about face if you see and thin cracks ok I will await your reply and how tall is she ? She German made . So many companies made these and your type of doll is often found unmarked sometimes a paper label is on them . Love her !
I need to correct myself as I look at her more I see she is more a composition version of "Gibson girl by German firm Kestner" . This head was also made in bisque . Dates 1910
I will try and find a photo of one to show you if I can find one :-)
Here is a photo of the Bisque Gibson Girl which is the doll yours was modled after , She came out in about 1910 in bisque and yours a bit later . Mystery solved :-) and welcome to CW glad to have you join us .
